The Department of Chemistry, Manipur University is organizing a workshop on ABCs of Infra-Red Spectroscopy, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and Gaussian which spans for seven days from 1st to 8th August 2022. The workshop focuses on imparting basics of the following spectroscopic and software tools which are routinely employed for research analysis in various areas of physical, chemical and biological sciences.
Infra-Red Spectroscopy (one day)
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (two days)
Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (two days)
Gaussian (two days)
Fifty percent of the session in the workshop is planned for hands-on training and exposure to the above mentioned spectroscopic instruments and software. In order for quality interaction among the participants and experts, the workshop is limited to 30 participants only. The workshop is open for researchers and faculty who require the need to use the above techniques in their research works. It is also an opportunity to raise problems faced in their works and discuss during the workshop on how to tackle and solve those problems.
The workshop is organized under the lead of NIT Agartala through the Synergistic Training program Utilizing the Scientific and Technological Infrastructure (STUTI) which is an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.

About Manipur University and the Host Department
Manipur University was established in 1980 at Imphal as a teaching-cum-affiliating university with territorial jurisdiction over the whole of the state of Manipur and it was upgraded to a central university in 2005. At present, the University has 108 affiliated colleges which include 2 medical colleges, 1 engineering college and 1 law college. The University is one of the leading central Universities in North Eastern region of the country with its campus spread over an area of 287 acres situated about 8 km from Imphal.
The Department of Chemistry is one of the major departments of the University since the establishment of the University with credible infrastructural facilities for advanced research in frontier areas of Chemistry and higher education offering MSc and PhD programmes. With the upgradation of the University into a central university, the department also gradually transformed itself from a pedagogical and teaching driven department into a research oriented one by cultivating and nurturing scientific talents of deserving students in terms of imparting chemical education scaling newer heights in all fronts as is evident from the quantum jump in the number of publications in peer reviewed journals of repute and the proportionate increase in the number of individual research projects sponsored by the DST, DBT, UGC, CSIR, etc. Besides, the Department has attracted good funding under the DST-FIST, UGC-SAP-DRS - I and UGC-SAP-DRS-II.
About Manipur
Manipur is one of the North Eastern states of the country which border with Myanmar in the east, Nagaland in the north, Assam in the west and Mizoram in the south. The average temperature in Imphal in August range between 23 and 29 degrees Celsius. Imphal, the capital city of Manipur with the landscape of green hills, lush fields and low clouds is like an exquisite painting. Manipur is home to the only floating national park in the world. The Keibul Lamjao National Park has many floating islands called Phumdis. Some important tourist places in Manipur are the Kangla Fort, Loktak lake, INA, Japanese War Memorial, Khonjom War Memorial, Khangkhui Cave, Shirui Peak, Dzukou Valley, Moreh town, etc.
